Body of sailor killed in WWII returned to Walton County

A Walton County man, who was killed in World War II in a Japanese air strike has returned home to hero's welcome.

In 1944, Seaman 2nd Class Deward W. Duncan was 19-years old, he was killed on a small island in the Pacific.

His body was considered lost till his grave was discovered in 2017 and his remains were identified earlier this year.

Thursday, Duncan body arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson and was escorted home by a parade of first responders from Walton County and several other agencies from across the state.
 
Duncan was buried Saturday at Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe with full military honors.
