Overnight wreck claims life of Clarkesville man near Toccoa

TOCCOA — Troopers are continuing their investigation of a two-vehicle wreck that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Stephens County early Tuesday. 

The wreck happened at 1:15 a.m. on Ga. 17 (Toccoa Bypass) at Ga. 106 (Mize Road), according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. 

A 2017 Toyota Sienna driven by Pyar Khimani, 57, of Suwanee was traveling north on Ga. 17 approaching the intersection with Ga. 106, according to GSP. A 2003 Harley-Davidson driven by Paul Beck, 57, of Clarkesville had stopped at the traffic signal facing north on Ga. 17. 

The traffic signal changed to green and the motorcycle began to travel north, according to GSP. The Toyota followed too closely, striking the rear of the motorcycle with its front. 

After impact, the Toyota came to an uncontrolled rest in the intersection facing north, according to GSP. The motorcycle came to an uncontrolled rest facing west on its right side. 

Beck died of his injuries. 

The wreck shut down the highway for several hours. 

The GSP Troop B Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating. 

Any charges are pending.
