The end of May not only brought a new, statewide car tag registration system, but also a reduction in the so called "Welcome to Georgia" car tax.
Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden said new residents will now pay a three-percent registration fee instead of seven-percent.
"Everyday almost, we see families moving into Gainesville-Hall County. It's not unusual to see four vehicles coming in with an approximately a $100-thousand value," Eden said. "Before May 28, the tax on that at 7-percent would be $7-thousand. Now that family can enjoy a reduced rate to $3-thousand."

The state legislature voted to reduce the tax back in 2018, but it was not implemented till this year.
