For the fifth year running, Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church in Gainesville has honored students in the church congregation with college scholarships. In 2019, six students received $1,000 scholarships to further their education.

"This scholarship has been funded by Dexter and Kathy Stanley from its inception and has bestowed over $20,000 in scholarships so far," said Senior Pastor Darryl Womack. "The Stanleys and the Montgomery Memorial family believe in higher education and believe in their future."

Womack said most of the students who receive the scholarships have been involved in short term mission work around the globe.

Gloria Smith, one of the 2019 scholarship recipients, will spend two months this summer in Uganda working with children who are served by Helping Hands Ministries.

Womack said the scholarships were first awarded in 2015.

Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church is located at 1210 West Ridge Road in Gainesville.
