Gainesville's Andrew Hughes fired a tournament-low 67 to qualify for the Georgia Junior Golf Championship on Tuesday at The Oaks Golf Club in Covington.

Hughes was one of three Red Elephants to earn a bid to the championship round.

Ryan Davidson turned in a 74 — tied for 14th place. Alex Hughes shot a 75 to finish in 20th place.

The Gainesville trio advances to the championship round to be held at Augusta Country Club June 17-19.

It was a bit of redemption for the Gainesville sophomore who struggled in the final round of the Class 6A state golf tournament earlier this month at Woodmont Golf Course in Canton.

Andrew Hughes final-round 79 dropped him to a 25th best two-day score of 154.

Georgia Junior Golf Week, sanctioned by the Georgia State Golf Association, has six qualifying rounds across the state to set the field for the championships. Golfers under the age of 19 are eligible to play in the qualifying rounds.
