GSP charges Cornelia man after chase, crash Saturday night

CORNELIA – A vehicle pursuit that began near the White County line on Ga. 384 (Duncan Bridge Road) shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday ended in a crash outside Cornelia a few minutes later.

A white Dodge Durango that was being stopped for speeding failed to yield and fled on Duncan Bridge Road and Level Grove Road before overturning on Old Athens Highway just past the intersection of Old Cleveland Road, according to Cpl. Dallas Van Scoten of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Following the crash, Jamie Dale Whitfield, 40, of Cornelia was taken into custody, according to Van Scoten, who said he will be charged with speeding, driving under the influence, and reckless driving.

Whitfield, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the wreck.
