Students can learn and play all summer long with a free ticket on a Gainesville Connection bus.

The “Gainesville Knowledge Connection” is a collaboration involving the Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center, Gainesville City Schools, Hall County Library System, and United Way of Hall County. The program encourages children to continue their summer learning by using the scheduled bus service to access the library, parks, recreational facilities, art programs, youth clubs, and museums. Free rides are available to K-12 students from May 28-Aug. 31.

“Gainesville Knowledge Connection is a safe way for kids to take a trip to the library,” said Phillippa Lewis Moss, Community Service Center Director. “Thanks to this wonderful partnership, they can enjoy reading and participating in library programming all summer long.”

Here’s how the program works:

•            Any K-12 student can pick up a flyer from the Gainesville Connection Administrative Building at 687 Main Street, at youth recreation places around town such as Boys & Girls Club, INK, YMCA and Gainesville Parks & Recreation, or at a Hall County library. The flyer is also online at www.hallareatransit.org.

•            When a student boards the bus for the first time, the student must show the flyer to the Gainesville Connection driver, who will help the student make the bus connection to the Hall County Main Library or Blackshear Place Branch.

•            Once at the library the student will give the flyer to the clerk, who will place a Gainesville Knowledge Connection sticker on the student’s library card. Now, the student can ride the Gainesville Connection free of charge all summer. Note that while this program is designed to encourage students to use their free pass to take trips to the library, they can travel free of charge anywhere within the system using the pass.

Visit www.hallareatransit.org for bus schedule information.
