ATHENS — According to published reports, Georgia freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis is recovering in an Athens-area hospital after having a cyst on his brain removed.

DawgNation reported Thursday night that the freshman quarterback from Romulus, Mich, had been suffering from severe sinus pain possibly brought on by the change in climate, according to his father and former Atlanta Falcons star Terence Mathis. Reports say the sinus issue factored into the cyst.

The elder Mathis said D’Wan was in the ICU on Thursday night as a precaution.

Mathis came over to Georgia during the offseason after transfering from Ohio State. He had a solid G-Day showing in April completing 15-of-28 passes for 113 yards. He also caught a 39-yard touchdown pass on a double-reverse pass from Matt Landers.
