A Gwinnett County Police K-9 died in the line of duty Thursday.
The department says K-9 Eli was assisting Snellville Police in looking for a suspect Thursday afternoon in the Grayson Parkway area when he became physically distressed.
Eli was rushed to a veterinarian but did not recover and died shortly after 5:00 p.m.. His distress is believed to have been related to the heat.
The nine-year-old Eli was an eight-year veteran of the force.
