GAINESVILLE — Chestatee went to the college ranks to find its newest boys basketball coach.

Chestatee Athletic Director Ben Corley announced Thursday that North Georgia assistant coach Josh Travis has agreed to take over the War Eagles program, pending Hall County School Board approval. Travis replaces Kevin Strickland, who accepted the same position in another school district.

Since 2003, Travis has served as the assistant men's basketball coach at UNG. Prior to his time at UNG, he served as an assistant coach in the Reinhardt College basketball program.

“Coach Travis brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Chestatee basketball program," Corley said. "He is a high character, high energy individual who will help our student-athletes become better men and better players. His passion for excellence on and off the court will make him a great addition to our Chestatee family.”

Chestatee finished the 2018-19 season with a 13-13 record in a rugged Region 7-4A. However, the War Eagles suffered several key injuries late in the year to drop their final six games.
