The Georgia Department of Transportation GDOT) has changed plans to detour traffic on SR 9 at Dawson Forest Road for roundabout construction at the intersection.

GDOT officials hosted an open house in March to let the community know about detours that would occur during the construction of the dual roundabouts.

"After consideration and evaluation of community needs, Georgia DOT has modified the staging of the project such that a detour will not be required during the summer months of the construction phase," said GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland in a news release. "Intersection access will remain open with the exception of a few days when temporary detours may be required as needed by the contractor. All disruptions to traffic will be minimized and advance notification will be given to the public when the contractor plans to detour traffic."

Strickland said contractors will be allowed to work Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. during the school year. When traffic increases for leaf season between October 1 and November 15, lane closures will not be allowed between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays or Sundays.

This project involves construction of two single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of SR 9 and Dawson Forest Road. The two roundabouts will be constructed independent from each other since the existing intersections are offset from each other.
