*Nicki Noel Vaughan, chief assistant public defender for the Gainesville-based Northeastern Judicial Circuit, was recently awarded the 2009 “Good Apple Award” by the Georgia Appleseed Center for Law and Justice.  The organization is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public interest law center with the mission to increase justice in Georgia through law and policy reform and community engagement.

*Forbes magazine has ranked the University of North Georgia as one of the nation's Best Value Colleges. UNG is one of only four Georgia universities selected for the fourth annual listing

*A traffic shift to the newly constructed lanes on State Round 13 in Buford between Sawnee Avenue and Thunder Road is planned Monday, May 13.  State DOT says workers will begin the shift at 9 a.m. with traffic expected to be using the new lanes by 1 p.m

*Piedmont College’s artists-in-residence chamber ensemble, Piedmont Camerata, will present a free concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 19 in the Chapel on the Demorest campus.

*One of Clarkesville’s biggest tourist attractions, the annual Mountain Laurel Festival, kicks off Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5 pm.

*The WorkSource Georgia Mountains Career Coach will visit the Good Samaritan Food Bank, 1220 McEver Road, Gainesville, May 22, 9:00-11:00.  Experts will be on hand to help attendees search and apply for jobs, write resumes and cover letters, discern their career interests, and learn about funded training opportunities. There is no charge to attend.
