A body was discovered Monday morning at a construction site in Jefferson, and at last report authorities remained on the scene investigating.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said the discovery was made around 8:25 a.m. at a location on McCreery Road.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to take the lead in the investigation.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of death have not yet been determined.
