Banks County provides update on deputy struck by a vehicle

Posted 11:18PM on Saturday 4th May 2019 ( 6 years ago )
The Banks County Sheriff's Office is not only dealing with crowds attending the NHRA Southern Nationals this weekend but also a line-of-duty incident that seriously injured a patrol sergeant Friday night.

"The last 24 hours have been unspeakable for our team," a post on the sheriff's office Facebook page states. "We want to thank each and every person who has shared their support and concern for our deputy involved in last night's incident."

The post goes on to identify the injured officer as Sgt. Joshua Robertson, adding he is "alert and talking to family and friends. He did sustain a multitude of injuries to include multiple broken bones and fractures"

So far few details of the incident, that happened on U.S. 441/Ga. 15 near the Jackson County line, have been released. The sheriff's office and Georgia State Patrol confirmed Friday night the deputy was struck by a vehicle while pursuing an arrested individual on foot.

Investigations by both agencies are continuing with the next update scheduled Monday night.

"On Monday at 6 p.m., we will release further details that will answer many questions surrounding the incident that transpired," the post states.

"We have been advised that Sgt. Robertson faces a long road of recovery," the post reads. "It is estimated to be at least one year before he will return to doing what he loves at BCSO. Along with surgeries, healing, and physical therapy, he will need support in so many ways. Make no mistake, we will ensure that every step of the way he and his family have that support. We cannot begin to express how overwhelmingly thankful we are to still have him with us!"
