Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said he will run for re-election in 2020, but according to published reports, he may change political parties.

Porter, who was first elected to the DA's office in 1992, has run as a Republican every time. However, as the political landscape changes in Gwinnett County, Porter is considering a switch to the Democratic Party.

Reports published in both the Gwinnett Daily Post and the Atlanta Journal Constitution said Porter considers the office of the district attorney to be non-partisan, so he will align himself with whichever party would give him the better chance of success at the ballot box. Porter has not had opposition since he was first elected 27 years ago.

The Gwinnett Daily Post article said Porter has not spoken with leaders of either party about what he might do.
