Flowery Branch city officials will recognize a former city councilman on Saturday, May 11 by naming a pier in his honor.

Fred Richards died in June 2018 at the age of 70 after serving more than five years on the city council starting in 2012.

Flowery Branch City Clerk Melissa McCain announced Monday that the city has planned to name a pier at Flowery Branch Bay Park after Richards. The park is on Mitchell Street south of the Lights Ferry Road roundabout.

The ceremony was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 4, but due to a high chance of rain for that date, McCain said it was moved to May 11.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at 6111 Mitchell Street.
