Gainesville: Longstreet Society set to celebrate its 25th anniversary

The Longstreet Society will celebrate its 25th anniversary during its annual Bivouac & Picnic Lunch on Saturday, May 11. 

The public is invited to "sit and enjoy" period music, visit with Civil War re-enactors and stay for a hotdog lunch at noon, which will include a birthday cake.

The Piedmont Hotel, which was owned by Confederate Gen. James Longstreet, who lived in Gainesville after the Civil War,  will be open for tours as will the Longstreet Society's Civil War museum.

The day's events will be held 10:00-4:00, rain or shine.

The Longstreet Society was formed in 1994 to honor the life of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, CSA.   Longstreet was second in command to General Robert E. Lee.
