CLARKESVILLE — The Gainesville girls took the 2019 Area 2 golf championship Monday posting a 252 score at Apple Mountain Golf Resort to beat Lakeside-Evans by 28 strokes.
The Lady Red Elephants were one of three teams to qualify for the upcoming Class 6A state tournament, which will be held May 20-21 held at Cobblestone Golf Course in Acworth. Grovetown fired a 285 to take the third and final spot for the girls.
The Gainesville boys, meanwhile finished third as part of a five-team boys contingent that qualified for the state tournament on May 20-21 at the Woodmont Golf and Country Club in Canton.
Greenbrier won the event shooting a 302. Lakeside-Evans took second at 304 and the Red Elephants fired a 311 to tie for third with Evans. Dacula carded a 320 for the fifth and final spot.
