After serving as the head of the Lake Lanier Association for nearly nine years, Joanna Cloud announced her resignation Saturday, prompting an immediate search for her replacement.
Cloud's last day as executive director will take place in mid-May, at which point she will be leaving the Gainesville-based organization for a "position with a local marine services company."
According to the press release announcing Cloud's decision, the Association has already begun accepting applications for her replacement, which can be submitted by email to [email protected].

Gainesville – after almost nine years at the helm of the Gainesville based Lake Lanier Association, Joanna Cloud has announced her resignation effective mid-May. Cloud started with the association in August of 2010. During her tenure with the organization, the annual income has tripled with a commensurate increase in lake-based programs and services. The membership based organization has experienced overall growth of almost 50% during the same period.
Significant accomplishments achieved by the Lake Lanier Association under Cloud’s direction include the boating safety solar lighting program for hazard markers on Lanier, the rip rap erosion control on several island areas in the main part of the lake, and notable advances in the handling and disposal of abandoned and derelict docks and vessels including removal of several large houseboats. Cloud was actively involved in working with the state legislature to obtain financial assistance from the state to remove abandoned vessels in 2016. The LLA is expecting another $25,000 from the state budget in fiscal 2020 for another round of abandoned vessel clean up. Cloud was also involved in advancing the boat titling legislation that is currently on Governor Kemp’s desk for signature. The LLA has greatly expanded relationships with local, state and federal agencies under Cloud’s leadership.
While Cloud is stepping down from her role with the lake-based advocacy group, she is not going far away. “I have accepted a position with a local marine services company and am excited to continue to be part of the Lake Lanier community both from a work and personal residence standpoint. The LLA is well poised for continued success because the passionate group of volunteer board members and association members are committed to keeping Lake Lanier Clean, Full and Safe.”
Cloud says. “I greatly appreciate the support from the members of the association over the past several years. It has been an amazing journey for me and I look forward to seeing the association continue to grow and serve the community.”
The association is actively seeking resumes from qualified candidates for the Executive Director role.
