After intense lashings on social media, the Veteran's War Memorial in downtown Cumming will be repaired instead of dismantled.
City leaders voted Tuesday to take the monument down due to safety concerns because of damage suffered from heavy rains.
The plan included crews taking the structure apart Thursday and storing pieces of the memorial that could be reused in the new city center being developed west of town on Hwy. 20.
Mayor Troy Brumbalow says the original materials are no longer available and it's not known how much repairs will cost.
However, the plan is to finish work before Memorial day.
