FLOWERY BRANCH — The Gainesville boys soccer team pitched its third consecutive shutout on Monday in a 3-0 victory over Cherokee Bluff in their final road match of the season.

Keeper Eduardo Bautista again was outstanding for the Red Elephants (14-2) in goal. They have allowed more than two goals in a match just once all season and have seven total shutouts.

Gainesville got goals from Jose Aguilera, Divin Mabruki and JeanDeDieu Gitinyiro. Erik Guat and JeanDeDieu both registered an assist.

The Region 8-6A champion Red Elephants next will wrap up their regular season on Thursday against arch-rival Johnson, the Region 8-5A champion and defending Class 5A state champion, at City Park Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. following the girls match.

In the first of three matches during the final week of the regular season, and their final home match, the Lakeview boys dropped their fourth match of the season by two goals or less to the Spartans.

The Lions (2-10) had several good scoring chances but could not find the net as they were shutout for the seventh time this season. They played a solid game defensively holding down a Athens Academy (11-3) offense that was averaging nearly four goals a game coming in.

Lakeview next will travel to Prince Avenue on Tuesday.
