Dale McDowell grabs Spring Nationals victory at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Dale McDowell led flag-to-flag Saturday Night at Smoky Mountain Speedway to score the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series victory on Saturday night.

It marks the 12th career series victory for the Chickamauga driver, along with a $10,000 payday.

McDowell led the race until lap 17 when Brandon Overton bypassed him for the lead. The pass, however, was negated when a caution came out before a lap was complete, giving McDowell the lead back.

McDowell led the remaining distance for his third victory of the season and continues to lead the series point standings.

Overton had to settle for second, with Ricky Weiss in third, Kyle Strickler in fourth and Michael Chilton in fifth.

Three cautions slowed the event, all within the first 21 laps of the 50-lap main event. The first caution came on lap six as Ryan Crane slowed with a right-rear flat tire. Chicky Barton slowed on lap 17 and the final yellow came on lap 21 when Colton Horner came to a stop.

Donald McIntosh, Tommy Kerr, Ross Bailes, Ashton Winger and Dakotah Knuckles rounded out the top ten finishers.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series returns to action on Friday at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, followed on Saturday at Toccoa Raceway.
