Longtime Gainesville banker dies

A longtime Gainesville banker, Jerry Head, has died at the age of 85.  He died Tuesday at Lanier Village Estates.

Head began his banking career in 1968 when he accepted a position with Gainesville National Bank, now Wells Fargo. 

In addition to his banking position, he developed and was director of the bank’s senior citizens travel FUN Club, and took groups on day and extended trips throughout the U.S. and the world.  Head spent 30 years in banking before his retirement.

Head was active in community organizations and his church as well.  He served on the Advisory Boards of the Gainesville Junior College (now a part of the University of North Georgia, Lanier Technical College, and the Chamber of Commerce.  He was a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church and the Friendship-Discussion Sunday School class for over 58 years.

A funeral service will be held at Gainesville First United Methodist Church Saturday, April 13 at 3:00, with visitation at the church following the service.
