Tax commissioners across Georgia are preparing to close for several days in May as part of a new statewide vehicle and registration titling system, and Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden is asking residents to be prepared.

In conjunction with a statewide effort to implement a new vehicle registration and titling system, the Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office will be closed to the public from Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27. During this time, all titling and registration payments will be unavailable statewide as the Georgia Department of Revenue installs a new, state-of-the-art system called DRIVES (Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System).

Additionally, the self-service kiosk located at Kroger Marketplace and online renewal services will be off-line from May 21 through May 27.

"We're encouraging vehicle owners and businesses with May or June registrations to renew early to avoid system upgrade delays the week before the launch of DRIVES around the Memorial Day holiday. Our office wants to continue to provide excellent customer service, and the DRIVES project will improve our office efficiencies and give more self-service options for our residents," said Eden.

Eden said there are five payment methods for residents to use:
Residents can renew their tags up to 59 days prior to their birthday.

The Department of Driver Services will not be affected during the move. Law enforcement will have access to the records system through a backup file.

Residents who live in counties other than Hall can check with their own county tax commission offices for specific closure dates.

The DRIVES system is expected to go online May 30. For more information on the statewide system, follow this link:  www.georgiadrives.com,
