Erwin defeats Gasaway in House District 28 landslide

HOMER – It appears the end of the nearly year-old Georgia House District 28 race may be in sight.

Chris Erwin of Banks County defeated former incumbent Dan Gasaway, also of Banks County, taking 75-percent of the vote in Tuesday’s House District 28 Special Primary.

Erwin received 4,586 votes (75.48 percent) to Gasaway’s 1,490 votes (24.52 percent), according to preliminary figures from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Elections Division.

In Banks County, Erwin received 85.46 percent (2,252 votes) to Gasaway’s 14.54 percent (383 votes). Additionally, Banks County received 38 provisional ballots that will be reviewed by the Banks County Board of Elections and Registration at a certification meeting at 9 a.m. Monday, April 15.

In Habersham County, Erwin received 75.67 percent (824 votes) to Gasaway’s 24.33 percent (265 votes). Habersham County also received three provisional votes that will be reviewed by the county’s board of elections at 5 p.m. Friday, April 12.

In Stephens County, Erwin received 64.2 percent (1,510 votes) to Gasaway’s 35.8 percent (842 votes). No provisional ballots were cast in Stephens County.

Voter turnout was about 21.3 percent.
