Baseball: David pitches Buford past Walnut Grove, into 1st place in 8-5A

WALNUT GROVE — Buford's Ramsey David outdueled Walnut Grove's Eli McMullen in a classic pitcher's duel to lead the Wolves to nail-biting 2-1 win Tuesday in a huge Region 8-5A battle for first place.

The victory pulled the Wolves (14-8, 4-1 Region 8-5A) into a tie with the Warriors (14-7, 4-1 Region 8-5A) for first place. Both teams lead Loganville (15-6, 3-1 Regon 8-5A) by just one-half game. Buford will play host to Walnut Grove on Wednesday with a chance to sweep the two-game series.

David scattered two hits and fanned nine as the Warriors only run came in the first on a Buford error to tie the game 1-1. The Wolves had taken the early lead in the top of the first ona RBI single by Evan Place scoring Austin Turner.

McMullen surrendered five htits and struck out eight for Walnut Grove in going the distance.

But Dylan Lesko's squeeze bunt scoring Riley Stanford in the top of the seventh was the eventual game-winner.
