CLARKESVILLE – The Georgia State Patrol has released details of a wreck involving a Habersham County school bus in downtown Clarkesville Tuesday morning.
The 2007 Freightliner 311TS school bus driven by Sandra M. Tanksley, 65, of Clarkesville was traveling south on Ga. 17 (Washington Street) and stopped to pick up a child on the east shoulder of the road, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
A 2014 Lincoln MKZ driven by Kayla Scoggins Bramlett, 34, of Clarkesville, also was traveling south behind the bus and failed to observe the stopping bus, according to GSP. Bramlett’s car struck the rear of the bus with its front.
Bramlett told troopers she was checking on her child in the rear seat at the time, according to GSP.
Eleven students were on the bus at the time of the collision, but no injuries were reported.
Students, potentially ranging from kindergarten through high school age, were offloaded onto another bus and transported to their schools, system officials said.
Troopers cited Bramlett for failure of driver to exercise due care and was warned for following too closely.
The collision occurred in downtown Clarkesville at the crosswalk on the south end of the square.
