ALPHARETTA — Will Cantrell scattered six hits and allowed just one run in leading Chestatee to a 6-3 win over Denmark Monday in a key Region 7-4A matchup.

Cantrell struck out five and walked one in six innings while Benson Miller closed out the game allowing two runs in the seventh.

But Miller also was a catalyst at the plate with three hits. Miller sparked a three-run fourth inning with an RBI double and was followed by an RBI double from Robbie James, who later scored on a wild pitch. The War Eagles (12-7, 4-3 Region 7-4A) added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Chestatee has won four of its last six overall and three of its last four in region play. The win moved the War Eagles into third place in the standings just percentage points ahead of Flowery Branch.

The War Eagles will play host to Denmark on Wednesday.

Andrew Armstrong and the Falcons won a tough pitcher's duel over the Warriors in a crucial Region 7-4A game Monday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

Armstrong went seven innings fanning 15 and scattering five hits to earn the win for Flowery Branch (11-10-1, 5-4 Region 7-4A) which also snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Warriors' Jared Johnson was equally tough allowing just six hits and striking out six in six innings of work.

The Falcons scored single runs in the first and second innings and Armstrong was able to make it stand up. Armstrong doubled in JB Bell in the first and Connor Larson scored on a steal of home on a double-steal in the second.

White County (9-12, 3-6 Region 7-4A) managed just one runner past first base on a double by Sawyer Loggins in the fifth.

The two teams will head to Cleveland on Wednesday for the second of the two-game series.
