Several northeast Georgia area teams have a chance Wednesday and Friday to begin to put distance between themselves at the top of their respective regions, or get back into the playoff race.

Regions 8-5A, 7-4A, 8-2A, and most of 8-A are taking off the week from region play as a whole.

(NOTE: Rain already has forced several games scheduled for Friday to be moved to Thursday. Check back with AccessWDUN for continuous updates as we get them.)

Region 8-6A continues with some big matchups with Gainesville taking on Apalachee and Habersham Central taking on Dacula. The Raiders (17-5, 5-2 Region 8-6A) wiped out the Falcons on Monday, 12-2, and can put themselves three games ahead of Lanier with a win and a Longhorns loss to No. 1 Winder-Barrow. Meanwhile, the Red Elephants (7-13, 2-5 Region 8-6A) are locked in a three-way battle with Apalachee and Dacula for the final playoff spot. They play host to Apalachee on Wednesday in a virtual must-win after the Wildcats rallied for a win a Monday.

Region 8-3A has Morgan County (18-3, 12-0 Region 8-3A) leading the standings but is off from region action this week. No. 1 Jefferson (17-0 10-0 Region 8-3A) will try to kept pace on Monday against East Jackson (9-9, 4-6 Region 8-3A). The two teams play a doubleheader on Friday. Jackson County (96-13, 3-9 Region 8-3A) and Hart County (8-11, 6-6 Region 8-3A) play a doubleheader on Friday with the Panthers trying to get back into the playoff chase.

And in Region 7-3A, North Hall (12-8, 11-2 Region 7-3A) picked up a game on Fannin County (14-5, 7-3 Region 7-3A) on Monday after the Trojans beat LUmpkin County and the Rebels fell to upstart Cherokee Bluff (12-8, 6-4 Region 7-3A). Both of those series continue on Wednesday while Greater Atlanta Christian (7-9-1, 3-6 Region 7-3A) takes on East Hall (2-14, 1-8 Region 7-3A) as both look try and get back in the playoff race as well.
