CORNELIA – A well-known Northeast Georgia restauranteur on Tuesday announced he will seek Cornelia’s top elected post.
John Borrow made the announcement near the conclusion of Tuesday afternoon’s Cornelia City Commission work session.
“We’ve lived in Cornelia since 1983 and we own and operate the McDonald’s in Cornelia, the one in Clarkesville and a few others across Northeast Georgia,” Borrow said.
After conferring with his family, Borrow said he believes now is the time to seek the mayor's seat.
“We’ve got a vested interest in our town, and I’ve seen the strength and potential that Cornelia has, and my wife and I and my family have talked and I think it’s the right time to start running for mayor, so I’m throwing my hat into the ring and decided to run for mayor this November,” Borrow said.
Incumbent Mayor J.C. Irby has decided not to seek re-election.
