Spring Break is upon us but that won't stop several northeast Georgia area regions from staging some big showdowns during the week in prep baseball action.
Regions 8-5A, 7-4A, and 8-2A are taking off the week from region play as a whole. Region 8-A is also off except for one huge matchup on Monday when Lakeview Academy (14-4, 6-0 Region 8-A) plays host to Athens Academy (10-2, 4-1 Region 8-A) with the Lions looking to stay unbeaten.
Meanwhile, Region 8-6A will have three big matchups with Gainesville taking on Apalachee and Habersham Central taking on Dacula in three-game series. The Raiders (16-5, 4-2 Region 8-6A) moved into second place after last week's series win over Gainesville. As for the Red Elephants (7-12, 2-4 Region 8-6A), they are tied with Dacula (7-12, 2-4 Region 8-6A) for fourth place.
Region 8-3A has Morgan County (18-3, 12-0 Region 8-3A) leads the standings but is off from region action this week. No. 1 Jefferson (16-0 9-0 Region 8-3A) will try to keep pace with a big series against East Jackson (9-8, 4-5 Region 8-3A). The Eagles are getting hot having won three straight to climb into fourth place.
And in Region 7-3A, North Hall (11-8, 10-2 Region 7-3A) has moved into first place after Fannin County (14-4, 7-2 Region 7-3A) dropped two of three to Greater Atlanta Christian. The Trojans will take on surging Lumpkin County (10-9, 5-7 Region 7-3A) which has won four of its last six after a 1-5 start. The Indians are tied with Dawson County (7-8, 5-7 Region 7-3A) for fourth place. Cherokee Bluff (11-8, 5-4 Region 7-3A) will take on Fannin County this week trying to hang on to third place.
