A 22-year-old man is facing arson charges after he apparently set fire to the furniture in his family's Gainesville apartment Wednesday morning and then fled the scene.

Gainesville Police Department Cpl. Jessica Van said four people - two adults and two children - were inside the apartment on North Cliff Colony Drive when the fire was set in the living room around 2:30 a.m. They were able to escape without injury.

Van identified the suspect as Jordan Micah McLain of Lawrenceville.

"All parties are known to each other and are family relatives. McLain was not on scene when officers arrived; therefore, warrants were sought for his arrest," she wrote in a press statement.

Van said Gainesville police officers were able to find McLain around 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the HomeTowne Studios extended stay hotel on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

"McLain initially refused to comply with officers by evading and locking himself in the laundry room of HomeTowne Studios," Van said. "Subsequently, McLain was arrested by officers on scene and taken to Hall County Jail."

McLain has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, two counts of theft by taking, one count of arson in the first degree and one count of obstruction of an officer. Van said other charges are likely.
