JEFFERSON — Offense has not been a problem for the Class 3A top-ranked Jefferson Dragons this season.
Jefferson hammered out 25 runs to close out the season sweep of Jackson County, 15-5 and 10-1, Friday afternoon in a doubleheader at Jackson County.
The Dragons have scored double-digit runs in eight out of the 13 games this season and are averaging almost 10 runs a game. In Region 8-3A play, the Dragons have averaged almost 13 runs per game.
The defensive stats are just as impressive for the Dragons, giving up 1.9 runs per game,
In the first game, Lane Watkins led the Dragons at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. He also scored two runs.
Sammy Elegreet drove in three runs on a 1-for-4 day at the plate. Zac Corbin was 3-for-5 with four runs scored. The Dragons (13-0, 6-0) scored 15 runs off 12 hits.
Derek Vaughn earned the win, giving up one run on three hits and one strikeout in three innings. Jasper Adamek came in in the fourth inning to finish the game, giving up two runs on five hits and two strikeouts.
Jefferson jumped out quickly, 3-1, after the first. Later in the game, the Dragons scored nine runs, including a six-run third to take a 12-1 lead.
The Panthers (6-10, 3-6) added two runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth, inching closer 12-4.
Jefferson scored three more runs, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to close the game.
In game two, JJ Rapp turned in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate with four RBI. Watkins continued his hot streak, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Rem Maxwell also drove in two runs.
Corbin and Hayden Phillips had one RBI each.
Bryce Jewell snagged the win, giving up three hits while striking out three in five innings. Corbin pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit and three Ks.
The Dragons scored five runs in the second, one in the fourth and two runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Jackson's lone run came in the sixth when Grant Hardegree crossed the plate.
Jefferson will travel to Hart County on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
Jackson County will host Morgan County Monday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.
