All 160 homes in the Baker & Glover Mobile Home Park off Cleveland Highway in Hall County will get a visit from firefighters this Saturday, March 23.

Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett said the fire department and the local American Red Cross chapter will be conducting a smoke alarm blitz in the community.

Brackett said volunteers plan to start canvassing the neighborhood at 10 a.m.

"Our intention is to target the 160 homes in that neighborhood for smoke alarm installation, battery replacement and also home safety surveys if the occupants so choose, just to give them some tips on any kind of safety issues that we see," Brackett said.

Brackett said during a blitz, firefighters will often discover homes are equipped with smoke alarms, but the devices are outdated.

"A lot of people do have smoke alarms but aren't aware that they actually expire after 10 years, so regardless of how many you have, you still have to replace them every 10 years because technology changes and things degrade," Brackett said.

Brackett said the smoke alarms are provided free of charge to the homeowner and donated by the American Red Cross.

He said they should be able to finish visiting all homes by 3 p.m.
