After reviewing 37 applications over the last several months, the city of Oakwood has selected a new police chief.

Tim Hatch, who is currently the Chief of Police in St. Mary's, Ga., will take over the reins in Oakwood on April 22, according to Oakwood City Manager Stan Brown.

"Chief Hatch’s selection was the result of an extensive search process," Brown said. "I am confident that Chief Hatch is the right choice, at the right time, to lead the Oakwood Police Department."

Brown said Hatch’s law enforcement career includes service with the University of Georgia Campus Police, Oconee County Sheriff’s Department, seven years as Captain with the Henry County Police Department and 14 years as Chief of Police for the City of St. Mary's in coastal Georgia.

Hatch earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Mercer University and is a graduate the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government Management Development Program and the FBI National Academy.

Hatch fills a post left vacant by last month's retirement of Chief Randall Moon.
