Lakeview Academy has named John Simpson as interim Head of School for the 2019-2020 school year.

Simpson is currently serving as Lakeview Academy's co-assistant head of school, supporting Dr. John Kennedy, a press release from the school said Tuesday.

Kennedy recently announced he would step down at the end of the 2018-2019 school year. He had served the school for nine years.

“During his tenure at Lakeview, Mr. Simpson has demonstrated the ideal leadership qualities to guide the school during this time of transition,” said Clay Eubanks, chair of the Lakeview Board of Trustees. “The members of the board are extremely thankful to Mr. Simpson for performing this role and are proud to have him in this leadership position.”
Simpson is a Gainesville native and is a 1996 graduate of Gainesville High School and a two time graduate of the University of North Georgia. In his 14 year career at Lakeview Acadcemy, Simpson has served in a number of roles, including admission and external relations director, dean of students, and as a coach.

In addition, Simpson is currently chairman of the Gainesville Parks & Recreation board as well as a pastor at Lanier Christian Church, and was recently named as the Gainesville Jaycees’ Young Man of the Year.

Simpson, however, has informed a search committee for the next head if school that he will not be a candidate for the permanent position.

The school hopes to select a permanent head of school by the end of December 2019, with the aim of installing the candidate by the start of the 2020 school year.
