Proposed change would shorten Forsyth County student calendars

Posted 4:00AM on Monday 18th March 2019 ( 5 years ago )

An additional professional learning day could be added to the next two school year's calendars in Forsyth County this week.

Fonda Harrison, Associate Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for the Forsyth County School District, said the day of training would benefit teachers and staff.

"With both next year's calendar and the 2021 calendar, what we felt like would be the best bang for our buck would be to do it during pre-planning so we could actually work with teachers at the beginning of the year," she explained.

The change would give the students one less day in class. She assured the board it wouldn't be a problem and said, "We well exceed the state required instruction minutes, even though we'd be down to 178 days."

The calendar was approved in November of last year, but the board will vote on the proposed changes on Tuesday.
