Oakwood: Burglars target University of North Georgia students on spring break

A residential burglary in Oakwood during the past week targeted University of North Georgia students.

According to UNG Police, the break-in occurred between March 8 at 3:00 p.m. and March 14 at 8:40 p.m. at the Hawks Nest at the Preserve, a student apartment complex near the campus. 

"A student reported that his apartment had been forcibly entered during the week of Spring Break, March 8 to March 14, 2019," according to an alert sent out by university police.  "Forced entry had also been made into the individual bedrooms of the residence and electronic items were stolen. No one was injured during the incident as all residents of the apartment were away during the time of the incident."

In commenting on the incident, police noted in the alert that people in the university community should:

*Remember to lock your residence when leaving

*Report incidents of theft as soon as they are discovered to enhance the possibility of recovery

*Document all serial numbers of electronics and any special markings, damage, or identifiers that may assist in locating and identifying stolen items

*Program the number for UNG Public Safety in your cell phone – (706) 864-1500 and report suspicious activity immediately

*If immediate assistance is needed, dial 911.
