JEFFERSON – The Jefferson baseball team keeps rolling.
After an extra-inning battle with Stephens County on Tuesday, The Dragons blew past Class 4A No. 7-ranked Stephens County, 6-1, Thursday afternoon.
It was the Class 3A top-ranked Dragons (10-0, 3-0) 10th straight win of the season.
“We have played fairly good in every aspect of the game,” Jefferson coach Tommy Knight said. “Very consistent.”
Derek Vaughn pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and three strikeouts. Rem Maxwell threw the seventh inning giving up no runs on one hit and one strikeout.
The Dragons jumped on Stephens County in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead. They added two more runs in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Lane Watkins was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Cole Watkins was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Dragons at the plate.
Stephens lone run came in the second inning.
The Dragons will turn their focus to a trip to Walnut Grove on Friday, but the meat of the Region 8-3A schedule begins in full force on Monday, when they begin a three-game series over three days against Jackson County.
“Our region is going to be tough,” Knight said. “Good teams that are capable of beating us at any time. We just want to keep playing as good as we can each game.”
