The White County Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday an investigation is underway after a local car dealership apparently closed down and left some customers without titles for vehicles they purchased.

Capt. Rick Kelley said in an email investigators have taken six incident reports involving Mitch Simpson Motors in Cleveland. The dealership, which was located on Highway 129 South, closed a little over a month ago.

Kelley said one of the complainants reported he received the title to his vehicle after he had filed a report with law enforcement.

Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta was on the property of the dealership this week, talking with customers who had been left without tags or titles for their vehicles.

In addition, the Better Business Bureau has a list of complaints on its website about similar problems customers have experienced with Mitch Simpson Motors. The reports, including one posted in January 2019, indicate most of the complaints have gone unanswered.

Simpson has had business problems in the past. In 2011, he was indicted on bank fraud charges when he apparently had his friends obtain business loans for him.
