Baseball: Branch shuts out Marist; Trojans beat GAC, again; GHS, EHall, White all win

ATLANTA – Andrew Armstrong struck out 10 and allowed three hits in seven innings of work to lead Flowery Branch to its first Region 7-4A win over Marist, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon on the road. 

Baxley O’Bryant scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to break the tie and give the Falcons (7-4-1, 1-0) the road victory. 

Caleb Freeman, Grant Lackey, JB Bell, Zander Seachrist and Jake Fever all recorded hits for the Falcons.

The Falcons will host Marist on Friday. First pitch is 5:55 p.m.


NORTH HALL 5,
GREATER ATLANTA 1

The Trojans erupted for four runs in the fifth to storm past Greater Atlanta Christian and pick up their third straight Region 7-3A win on Wednesday afternoon at home. 

It was North Hall’s second win over the Spartans this week. The Trojans (5-7, 4-1) beat the Spartans 5-0 on Monday and will go for the season sweep at GAC on Friday. First pitch is 5:55 p.m.

Kelton Kieschnick went the distance on the hill, giving up one run on five hits while striking out six. 

Tate Brooks started the Trojans run in the bottom of the fifth with a single to left field scoring Christian Payne. Caleb Clark scored Dylan Wiley a batter later on a single to right field and David Seavey ripped a double a batter later which scored Jay Johnson and Clark. 

Tyler Brooks scored the Trojans run in the sixth inning off a Tate Brooks walk. 

Tate Brooks and Seavey drove in two runs each. Clark had one RBI. 

 

GAINESVILLE 8,
CHESTATEE 1

The Red Elephants sprinkled eight runs over six innings to swing past Chestatee Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.

After taking the lead off a double by S White and an error in the second inning, Gainesville's Cale Conley ripped a two-run homer over the center field wall.

Chestatee scored its lone run in the fifth off a Will Cantrell single. 

In the sixth, the Red Elephants added more insurance with a two-run home run from Corbin Lindsay, pushing the lead up to 6-1. Later in the inning, both Conley and Kyle doubled, scoring two runs. 

Dylan Nesbit picked up the win on the mound for the Red Elephants, giving up one run off eight hits and five strikeouts. 

Gainesville (5-6) will travel to North Oconee Thursday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.

Chestatee (7-3) will travel to Madison County Friday. First pitch is 5:55 p.m.

 

CHEROKEE BLUFF 6,
DAWSON COUNTY 1

The Bears (8-4, 4-1) scored six runs in the fourth inning to propel them to the Region 7-3A win over Dawson County (4-5, 2-4) Wednesday at home.

Dylan Kautz pitched five and one-third innings, allowing one run on three hits and four strikeouts. James Mitchell snagged the save, going one and two-thirds innings with one strikeout. 

Dawson's run came in the fifth inning. 

Both teams will return to action for game three of the series on Friday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.

 

WHITE COUNTY 10,
WEST HALL 0

The Warriors scored 10 runs to beat West Hall for the second time this week Wednesday afternoon in Oakwood.

Jake Johnson pitched five innings, giving up no runs on four hits zero runs on four hits and striking out seven. 

White scored five runs in the second, four in the fifth and one in the sixth. 

White County will host West Hall on Friday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.


EAST HALL 6,
JOHNSON 2

The Vikings scored four runs in the eighth inning to get past Johnson Wednesday afternoon. 

TJ Smith struck out 10 in eight innings of work for the Vikings. Smith also tied the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.

Matt Lacey, Taylor Smith, and Zach Kinsey also had a hit on the night. 

Kelton Kieschnick leads the Trojans past GAC for the second time this week.
