Over a dozen fugitives were arrested Monday in Gwinnett County as part of Operation Purge.
As well as locating 16 fugitives, agents also located 140 grams of marijuana and three firearms. Two of the firearms were stolen, resulting in additional charges, according to a press release from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
Of the 1,907 outstanding felony warrants over a 30 day period in Georgia, the FBI was able to determine 392 fugitives were currently incarcerated and 21 of the fugitives were deceased.
Operation Purge is a national effort in which the FBI and local agencies team up to locate suspects with outstanding warrants in the respective jurisdictions. Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, Gwinnett County Police, Georgia State Patrol, Braselton Police, Duluth Police, Lawrenceville Police, Lilburn Police, Suwanee Police and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision all participated in the Monday morning event.
"I appreciate every one of the nearly 200 law enforcement officers who showed up in the dark yesterday morning to arrest fugitives," said Sheriff Butch Conway in a press release. "When law enforcement agencies pool resources and work together, the community benefits. We all share the common goal of increasing safety for everyone."
The agents worked in teams, meeting at a location in Norcross at 5 a.m. By 10 a.m., they had checked 125 locations.
