A fire investigator with the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office has determined that a Sunday-afternoon fire in Toccoa was intentionally set.
That fire, reported at 5:24 p.m., destroyed a home located at 138 Locust Street, Toccoa, according to Brandon Wright of Safety Fire Commissioner Jim Beck’s office.
Investigators believe the fire was set on the outside of the structure and then burned into the attic area before spreading to the rest of the home, according to Wright. The sole occupant was able to escape without injury.
Beck is asking anyone with knowledge about the fire to call the Arson Hotline at (800) 282-5804. Rewards of up to $10,000 are offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). Calls are taken 24 hours a day, and callers can choose to remain anonymous.
Toccoa Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
