Micro-breweries and micro-distilleries are now welcome in Forsyth County.

Jo Garcia with NoFo Brew Company spoke in favor of the change.

"My partners and I have a proposed micro-brewery in the north part of the county in a building that's currently zoned CBD. So, we just want to speak in favor of that," Garcia told the board. "Our project is approximately 6,000 square feet with an on-site production facility as well as a tap room."

The NoFo Brewery social media accounts say they plan to open this summer.

Paula Dezzutti of Local Choice Spirits plans to open a micro-distillery in The Stables Motor Condos off McFarland Road and also spoke in support.

She said. “Millennials especially are looking for this authentic, genuine, hands-on experience where they can learn about spirits and participate and have fellowship and commitment to their communities.”

County leaders approved changes to the alcohol code allowing breweries and distilleries to open areas zoned commercial or industrial in the county.
