Small Business Spotlight is a periodic feature highlighting unique small businesses in AccessWDUN's 10-county coverage area.

This week, AccessWDUN's Joy Holmes made a stop at Public Square Wine Market, a local wine and gourmet shop in downtown Jefferson. Rose Adams, the owner of the market, has 30 years experience in the business, and she wasn't quite ready to call it quits on her career. Adams worked in sales for one of the most well-known wineries located in Portugal, so it's safe to say this local knows her wine.

Public Square Wine Market offers several different wines from vineyards all over the world, but for people who aren't sure what they're looking at, there's no need to worry. Adams' knowledge of her products help her customers find the right kinds of wines specific to their flavor profile.

According to Adams, a good bottle of wine doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag. The market offers wines at the low-end and high-end of the price spectrum.

"I try to keep my prices moderate, because I don't want to leave anyone out," Adams said. "I think the average consumer wants that under-$20 bottle of wine," she said.

For customers who are looking for a new favorite, or those who want to explore the art of wine-drinking, a tasting is held each Saturday from 4-6 p.m. The tastings feature wines from a specific country or region, and gourmet cheese is served alongside the pours.

A small selection of craft beers, gourmet foods and gift items also are sold at the market.
