MT AIRY – The Chestatee War Eagles (6-1) held off a seventh-inning comeback attempt to knock off Habersham Central, 6-5, Wednesday night on the road.
Chestatee led by four runs going into the bottom of the seventh when the Raiders (7-3) launched a two-out rally when Hogan Pitts was hit by pitcher Nolan Turner. The hit by a pitch scored Ryte Woodruff and moved Alex McFarland to third and Payton Irvin to second base.
The next at-bat, Logan Hare’s single to centerfield scored McFarlane and Irvin making the game interested with two outs, 6-5.
Then Benson Miller walked Logan Bogue a batter later, loading the bases. Miller, however, settled down the next at-bat, forcing Christian King to pop up to first baseman Robbie James to end the game.
Will Cantrell had a successful day at the plate and on the mound for the War Eagles, going 3-for-4 at the plate and pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out 10. Phillip Lemay drove in two runs off a 2-for-3 day.
For the Raiders, Payton Irvin turned in the best at-bat performance, going 4-for-4. Logan Hare was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Chestatee will host Madison County Friday at 5:55 p.m.
Habersham Central will host West Hall Saturday at 1 p.m.
WHITE COUNTY 7
JOHNSON 2
White County scored five runs in the fifth inning to beat Johnson Wednesday night at home.
Connor McGuire went the distance on the mound for the Warriors, giving up three hits, no earned runs and struck out 10.
Wyatt Sieveking drove in two runs and Evan Chambers had one RBI in the win.
Jonathan Williams had one RBI for the Knights.
The game was tied, 2-2, when the Warriors put five runs on the board, three off errors by the Knights.
Sieveking drove in Chambers, who reached on a walk earlier in the inning, and Austin Payne, who reached on an error in the fifth inning.
Johnson only sent six batters to the plate in the last two innings.
White County (3-4) will travel to Murray County on Friday. First pitch is 5:30 p.m.
Johnson (1-6) will travel to Riverside Friday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
DAWSON COUNTY 10
NORTH HALL 6
The Tigers evened the series with North Hall Wednesday night at home.
Hudson Sapp picked up the win for the Tigers, giving up one run on five hits and nine Ks in five innings of work.
Sapp also homered in the bottom of the sixth inning.
North Hall’s Daniel Seavey single in the first inning scored J Dyer to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead, but Dawson’s TJ Allen tied the game in the bottom off a home run to left field.
The next two innings was a pitcher’s duel between Sapp and North Hall’s Kelton Kieschnick.
Dawson, however, blew open the game in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning.
The Trojans tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five runs. Dylan Wiley and Caleb Payne singled runs home, Tyler Brooks walked home, and two errors sent runs across the plate for the Trojans.
North Hall (2-7) will host Dawson County (2-2) on Friday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.
LAKEVIEW 12
WEST HALL 1
The Lions rolled past West Hall Wednesday night on the road, hammering out 12 runs, 10 in two innings, to force the mercy rule in the sixth inning.
Andrew Estes pitched six innings, giving up four hits while striking out nine.
Jordan Thomas was 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Lions' offense. Ian Echols drove in two runs for the Lions, and Sam Stewart, Holden Cooper finished with one RBI.
West Hall's lone run came off an error in the bottom of the first inning.
Lakeview (6-1) will host West Hall (6-2) on Thursday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
RIVERSIDE 16
MEADOWCREEK 1
It only took Riverside three innings to dispose of Meadowcreek Wednesday at home.
Alex Lewis struck out four, allowed three hits and one run. Lewis also drove in four runs for the Eagles.
Kiajh Munroe and Jesse Crandall were 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Treston Turner was 1-for-1 at the plate with 2 RBI. Justin Kelly, Avery Gibson and Malique Charlton all drove in one run.
Riverside (6-4) will host Johnson on Friday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
