Baseball: Bluff, White, Chestatee pick up big wins; Gainesville, Riverside fall

RABBITTOWN – Cherokee Bluff exploded for three insurance runs in the seventh inning to roll past East Hall, 7-3, and pick up the Bears' first Region 7-3A win Monday on the road. 

Parker Shope picked up the win for the Bears. He gave up two earned runs while striking out six in six innings. Carsen Plumadore picked up the save, pitching one solid inning, allowing one hit and no runs.

Luke Holtzclaw went six innings for the Vikings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out a game-high 10 batters. He walked one. 

The Bears scored one run in the first inning off a Shope single to right field, scoring Dylan Kautz, going up, 1-0.

In the third, the Bears padded the lead off a Viking error which scored Tino Mukono. The next at-bat, Chandler Shope ripped a line drive to right field, scoring Jackson Kemp, who reached earlier on an East Hall error, pushing the Bear lead to 3-0.

East Hall (0-6) answered, however, in the bottom of the third with two runs, one off a double by Holtzclaw that scored Matt Lacey and the other off a Luke England single which scored Holtzclaw, closing the gap 3-2 after three.

Kemp's doubled in the fourth scoring Mukono to tack on another run and extend the lead, 4-2.

East Hall's final run came in the bottom of the fifth when Holtzclaw popped a fly ball to right field. Mikey Parker scored off a throwing error. 

The Bears cashed in two errors in the seventh, scoring three runs to put the game out of reach. 

Cherokee Bluff (5-3) will host East Hall on Wednesday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.


FORSYTH CENTRAL 9
GAINESVILLE 1

A seven-run fifth inning lifted Forsyth Central past Gainesville at Ivey-Watson Field Monday afternoon.

Leading 1-0 going to the fifth, the Bulldogs capped a seven-run fifth off a Jonathan Bergmoser single to center field scoring AJ Fiechter and Michael Disney stole home. 

The Bulldogs added two more runs in seventh off a Brady Hall single to right field, scoring Fiechter. A batter later, Ryan Gamble signed on a pop fly to right field sending Hall home. 

Mitchell Gross picked four innings, striking out 11 and allowing one run on two hits for the Bulldogs.

Dylan Nesbit split the duties on the mound for the Red Elephants, combining for nine runs on eight hits and five Ks.

Gainesville (4-5) will travel to West Forsyth Wednesday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.


WHITE COUNTY 12
RABUN COUNTY 2

The Warriors found its rhythm in the third inning, scoring 12 runs through the final four innings to take the mercy-rule win over Rabun County at home Monday afternoon.

White County scored four runs in the third, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the six.

Johnson picked up the win on the hill for the Warriors, going all six innings, striking out 11 and allowing two runs on four hits. 

Norton was 1-for-1 at the plate, driving in three runs for the Warriors. Haynes was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Chambers went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win.

Rabun County (0-7) will travel to Putnam County Friday for a doubleheader. Games start at 5 p.m.

White County (1-4) will host Johnson Wednesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.


CHESTATEE 15
BERKMAR 0

The War Eagles didn't need seven innings to dispose of Berkmar Monday afternoon at home.

Chestatee scored 15 runs in four innings to enforce the mercy rule against Berkmar. 

Nolan Turner was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the War Eagles.

Clay Tyas started on the mound and pitched three innings, allowing two hits and no runs, while striking outs.

Chestatee scored 14 runs in two innings, eight in the third and six in the fourth.

Chestatee (5-1) will host Madison County on Friday. Game time is 5:55 p.m.


PEBBLEBROOK 8
RIVERSIDE 7

Riverside tried to rally in the top of the seventh but only came up with two runs to fall to Pebblebrook on the road Tuesday night.

The Eagles tied the game with a three-run third inning, but Pebblebrook would put four runs on the board over the next two innings to go up 8-4. 

Riverside opened the top of the seventh with a line drive out but put together two singles to set the table for Alex Lewis. Lewis doubled to right field scoring Treston Turner. 

On the next play, Jesse Crandall scored Malique Charlton on a ground out to first base, advancing the tying run, Lewis, to third base. Andrew Ross battled at the play, fouling off four balls until he was thrown out on a dropped strike three at first to end the game.

Alex Lewis was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Treston Turner was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI to lead Riverside.

Riverside (5-4) will host Johnson on Friday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.


LAKEVIEW 11
CLARKE CENTRAL 10

Sam Stewart's score off a wild pitch in the top of the 11th inning would give the Lions (5-1) the win over Class 6A Clarke Central on the road Monday afternoon. 

Lakeview led 9-4 going to the bottom of the sixth inning when the Gladiators scored four runs to close the gap, 9-8. 

The Lions tacked on a run in the top of the seventh off a Holden Cooper single to centerfield that scored Ian Echols to give them a 10-8 lead. 

But, Clarke Central ripped off two runs in the bottom to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

Cooper was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI for the Lions.

Lakeview will host Commerce Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
