A fire reported at the Jackson County Jail in Jefferson Tuesday morning was quickly extinguished, according to information from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Jefferson Fire Department.

Jefferson Fire Chief Mark Duke said the fire was already out by the time his crews arrived.

"We had a small fire in the air unit on the roof. Smoke entered the air ducts but was cut off by air dampers, which alarmed the building," Duke wrote in an email statement. "No one was injured and the fire was put out by swift acting jail staff members prior to our arrival."

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said personnel from Jefferson Fire Department, Harrisburg Fire Department and Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire Department quickly responded, but the incident was minor.

She said everything is operating as normal at the jail.
