MACON — The Lanier Christian Academy boys will get a shot at its first state title on Saturday after the Lightning held off Calvary Christian 68-58 in the GICAA semifinals in Macon.
The Lightning will play Covenant Academy in the championship game Saturday in Macon at 7:30 p.m. Covenant beat Kings Academy in overtime on Friday in the other semifinal.
LCA jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter. The two teams then played to a stalemate over the second and third quarters with LCA leading 44-37 heading into the fourth quarter. The Lightning outscored Calvary Christian 24-21 to pull away down the stretch.
Joseph Edwards led the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Trevin Last added 11 points and 9 rebounds, Tommy Wandrum had 14 points and 7 assists, and Stephen MacLagan chipped in with 9 points on three 3-pointers for LCA.
