MELBOURNE, Fla. — Kylee Smith struck out 17 batters, a new single game record, as the No. 3 North Georgia softball team won the opening game of the Florida Tech Invitational with a 3-0 win over Barry Friday night.

UNG got on the board in the fifth on a Kali Turner RBI single to score Harlee Williams and put the Nighthawks on top, 1-0. Marley Stowers doubled the North Georgia lead with a triple to right field that scored Kaylyn Anthony before coming across the plate on a Shelby Hammontree bunt that brought the game to its final score.

NOTES
- Smith broke her own single game record of 16 strikeouts in a single game, set last year. The junior struck out the side in three innings. She also threw a one-hitter, walking just three batters.

- Olivia Sinquefield went 2-for-4 to lead North Georgia at the plate.
